Chapter 3
by RathTraveller
Where is Jason working?
A farm.
For one thing there were all those fences to mend.
One day his Uncle Tom would invest in electrified fences - or so he said. One day they'd have a good year and be able to sell the farm and move from the countryside too. One day... there was always a one day.
But for now, Jason was fixing a gap in the old wire fence. It was a stop-gap measure, for soon it wouldn't matter if there was a fence there or not, with the blueberries growing thick and tall enough to act as a natural hedge. They might get grazed a little, but they were planted densely enough that the cattle wouldn't be able to get through them. The problem was at this height the cattle could easily go over them. Slipping the cap back onto his head, Jason spent the rest of the day engrossed in his work. He didn't even realise the sun was going down until he heard the approach of someone else.
What exactly is Jason hearing?
