A familiar Orc Warrior

The loincloth-clad Orc Warrior that Jerry had seen just minutes before on his television screen now barreled towards him. The green skinned monster bellowed a guttural cry as it ran towards him. Jerry was confident that the spiked club that the Orc wielded could cave in his skull with a single blow.

Jerry turned to run as Titania calmly drew her bow and readied an arrow. She arched an eyebrow as she noticed his obvious panic.

"It's only a single Orc," she chided. "We can take him."

Jerry wished he could believe Titania or at least that he could calmly stand his ground. Unfortunately, Jerry's body was shaking wildly with panic. He was spasming in fear. The Orc was just feet away from him now. Jerry didn't know what button commands on the interface in front of him would be useful to engage the Orc in combat. There was no user manual or tutorial, only a big, angry green man who was on a collision course with his fragile human frame.

Jerry did what any gamer does when he is faced with an unfamiliar situation. He mashed as many buttons as he could on the interface in front of him. Every menu, every button command. He opened and closed his inventory. He increased and decreased his speed. He drew and sheathed a dagger (he had a dagger?). He even pulled out a map that seemed to materialize out of thin air. Just as he could feel the Orc's carrion breath on his face, the world froze and large bold letters appeared in the sky overhead. The letters read "Developer Mode."

The world ahead of him was frozen. Both Elf and Orc were suspended in time. The "~" key on his personal keyboard was glowing with pale blue fire, showing that it was the Developer Mode hotkey! Between them was a small white arrow that Jerry recognized to be a mouse cursor. Cautiously, Jerry tried to approach the arrow. He quickly realized though that he was frozen too! When he attempted to move forward the arrow instead moved away from him towards a bush. Instantly a menu appeared next to the arrow. The menu read

Bush- Plant - Level 0 - Non Sentient
Attacks: None
Defense: None
Special: None

Jerry decided to experiment by altering this menu. After typing a few words the menu now read

Blackberry Bush - level 0 - Non Sentient
Attacks: None
Defense: None
Special: None

After exiting the menu Jerry immediately noticed small, dark berries appear amidst the leaves of the bush. He had altered the bush using Developer Mode! With a minor amount of concentration and no small amount of amazement, Jerry found that he could freely manipulate the cursor towards other parts of his surroundings. Other, similar menus appeared as he manipulated the cursor around. Jerry then got an idea: maybe he could manipulate his surroundings to his advantage.
