A date

Alexa bit her lip nervously as she approached the cafe where she had agreed to meet with Michelle, her long time friend and crush. It had been awhile since the last time they talked, but since they found out they were in the same town, Michelle arranged a meet up so they could talk and catch up. Alexa didn’t want to dress up too much, but at the same time, she wanted to impress Michelle after not seeing her for 4 years.

Alexa took a deep breath and entered the cafe. She looked around. Michelle wasn’t there yet. Alexa grabbed a table by the big windows and sat down as she looked at the paper menu.

“Can I get you anything?” A waitress asked coming over.

“Just a mocha latte. Tall,” Alexa said. “I’m still waiting for someone.”

The waitress nodded and walked away. The bell to the door rang as it opened. Alexa looked up and gasped at what she saw. Michelle definitely matured well; her black hair was now a dark purple, her eyes the same vibrant gray, and her skin was a bit tanner. Still, Alexa recognized her immediately. She watched as Michelle looked around for a moment and then their eyes met.

Alexa could feel her cheeks heat up as Michelle swayed her hips and walked to her. “Hey, Lexi. You look good,” Michelle said, winking.

“Back at you,” Alexa said. “What did you do to your hair?”

“Like it? I figured I needed to change things up,” Michelle said.

“And Rose was okay with it?” Alexa said.

“I didn’t give her a choice,” Michelle said. “But, she was okay after a week or so.”

The waitress came over again and delivered Alexa’s coffee. Michelle put in her order to drink and then the girls ordered their sandwiches. Alexa sipped her coffee as they talked. Apparently Michelle had dropped out of college and pursued a career in the social media realm. Alexa told her about how she had an internship at this tech company. Eventually they got their food and continued to talk in between bites as they ate. “I’m really happy for you,” Michelle said. “It sounds like you’re all set.”

Alexa smiled. She started feeling the urge to go to the bathroom, but she didn’t want to interrupt this moment between them. Alexa ignored the signs and continued talking and drinking coffee. Suddenly she couldn’t hold it anymore. She quickly stood up and raced for the bathroom, clutching the front of her pants. “Sorry, I have to pee,” Alexa said desperately as she waddled, praying that she would make it without disaster.
