A cryptic phone call, and a fateful question.

Once Beth had finished up with Peter, she took a short break to use the bathroom and allow Jenny to get ready for her massage. After a few minutes of working Jenny's bare back, while Peter ate the lunch Jenny had prepared and watched with interest, Peter's phone rang from the couch where it was sitting.
"Excuse me ladies."
Beth focused on her work, trying not to eavesdrop, but Peter wasn't moderating his voice, so some of the information wormed it's way into her brain as she massaged.
"She's comfortable? Josh, that's great news. You're going to have a great time." Peter seemed excited. Jenny murmured something that Beth didn't quite catch, but sounded like... "The key party?"
Peter turned towards them and nodded in enthusiasm. He then continued. "Yep.... uh huh... ha, yeah, funny how that happens, huh? I hope you don't mind me saying but...." he lowered his voice, but Beth thought he said, "hope she pulls mine." Jenny chuckled beneath her, and Beth felt very left out of the joke. It's none of your business, anyway.
Well, then maybe they shouldn't talk about private stuff around me. I'm not a fly on the wall...
"Well, we're looking forward to seeing you on Sunday then." Peter hung up, and Jenny piped up.
"Josh and Miranda?"
"Yep."
"Wow."
They seemed to drop the subject, and she continued working with her questions unasked. {if Upbringing = 3

As Beth got close to the end of Jenny's massage, Peter headed upstairs to take a nap: the realities of being an overnight pit boss at a casino. When she heard the door close upstairs, Beth's curiosity got the better of her.
"Jenny... I didn't meant to eavesdrop, but... what's a 'key party'?"
Jenny chuckled to herself. "Sometimes, you're just so good at what you do, I forget you're there, and then we talk about stuff that's...well it's out of the bag now." Jenny sat up, pulling on her robe. "So, a key party...is when a bunch of couples: some married, some not, but all that live with their partners, go to a party at the house of one of the couples. We drink, we smoke a little weed, we have a good time. When you get to the party, every guy takes their keys and tosses them into a box or a bowl. At the end of the night, the ladies at the party reach in and pull out a key, without looking... and..." Jenny smiled. "They go home with that guy."

} That's why it sounded familiar. Her mother had mentioned that term to her, when explaining the lifestyle that Beth's parents enjoyed. {else

"Yeah."
"And you two have gone to... one of these parties? I'm sorry. This isn't very professional, it's none of my business, I should just..."
Jenny laughed. "It's okay, Beth. You've always been more than just a masseuse for us. You're a friend."
Beth nodded. "I feel that way, too. Just.. I wasn't expecting that."
"The answer to your question is yes. We've been to..."she seemed to be counting in her head, "...five? yeah, five parties so far. We got into the lifestyle last fall, and we started attending the key parties in January. I guess...yeah there's basically been almost one a month that we've been able to get off for..." she paused, smiling at the unintended double entendre.
"Wow... I never would have guessed."
"Yeah, well... now you know." Jenny sighed, but her face was friendly and open, not really exasperated or embarrassed.
