A confession.

It wasn't hard to know what would come next. Beth and Denny were making out, hands roaming over each others bodies. It felt good, and Beth tried to lose herself in the enjoyment, but her nagging conscience eventually led her to break the embrace.
"Wait." she put a hand on Denny's chest.
"What's wrong."
"I'm sorry..." she got off his lap, and straightened her clothes. "I... I have to confess something."
"Okay..."
"I'm not single.... in fact..." she pulled her ring out of her purse and put it on. "I'm getting married."
"I see. Well that wasn't hard to predict." Denny sighed, standing up to walk to the fridge for another beer.
"What does that mean?"

} I'm not surprised you're off the market. I didn't exactly expect a ring on your finger, but..." He sighed.
"I'm sorry... I shouldn't have waited to tell you. I should have said something before." I wanted to feel... I'm not sure what I wanted to feel. "It was a mistake."
"Does he treat you well?"
"Yes." she gave a brief rundown of Brian's qualities. Denny looked unimpressed as he drank his beer and watched her. When she finished, wilting under his gaze, he shrugged.
"Sounds like you got it all figured out. So what are you doing here, with me? At midnight?" He walked over to stand over her.
"I told you, it was a mistake."
"You didn't seem to think so a few minutes ago." He drank another swallow. "You're here for something. Stop wasting time and tell me."
