Chapter 13 by Tumulus-Hedge Tumulus-Hedge

What's next?

A chance of salvation

Nermeria woke early, partially out of her own will, and partially from the fact that she had to run to the latrine to deal with her hangover. Copper coins spilled out from her dress, and she quickly threw the dress aside, feeling none too happy to continue wearing the dress. A bath and potion later, Nermeria felt in much better shape, and set out on her two quests for the day: Getting money from her account, and checking if she could reach out to any other players.

The bank would be the easiest, of course. She was still Nermeria Longlif, just trapped in this stupid outfit with it's absurd curses; going to the bank was as simple as walking up and pulling out your money. With the gold, she'd find herself a surgeon or enchanting expert, and get this shit off.

Checking her friends list, as brief as it was, was easier. Not for any good reason though - of the 7 people Nermeria had made friends with over the course of the game, 4 were away, 2 were hiding their status, and only 1 was online. Nermeria squinted at the name, trying her best to remember who it was....it hit her after tracing back her steps early in the game.

A friend from one of the forums she was on. Right. Their last chat was 72 days ago, and the game gave her a nice notification when she attempted to type.

SYSTEM MESSAGE: No typing allowed into friend chat. Please resolve any curses before using chat!

Damnit. That made it more interesting, certainly. Thinking over her possible solutions, Nermeria decided on revisiting the idea. She was used to playing solo, but someone in the game might notice she was gone, or from one of the forums she frequented. Right?

The rush to go to a bank (different where she had been a teller) came next, and Nermeria was happy when she finally stood inside a bank and was no longer in the soaking wet rain.

A similar looking teller to the one she worked with smiled at her, and beckoned her forward. Nermeria, feeling a wellspring of willpower, walked up, and stated matter-a-factly to the woman. "I'd like to withdraw 2,000 gold please. Nermeria Longlif."

The teller's face nodded, and she briefly froze. "I...." Frozen in place, the teller said nothing for close to a minute, until she twitched a bit. "Debug mode....."

Raising her eyebrow, Nermeria stood their for another minute or so, confused until her wrist vibrated, and a mass of text began to read across the interface.

Nermeria read over error 2. Was this the solution to her problems? The system knew she had been logged on too long, which meant, of course, she'd have to be booted from the game. Awaiting the systems answer, Nermeria smiled. She was saved!
