Chapter 28
by Impregmaniac
What is it?
A White Madosin.
While the minutiae of it escapes me, I do recall the gist of his argument.
- As the people who brought civilization and order to the New World, and by right of conquest, it is only fitting that it be inherited by those whose forefathers had fought for and earned it. Second to that, he also believed that as we continue further inland, we would require more peoples to beat back the savages.
- I could sense a deep disdain for the non-whites he had. The sneer on his face had been quite overt. To quote him, "These... creatures think themselves our equals, simply because they have taught themselves to walk on both legs."
- That being said however, he had mentioned that if Madosin were still to open her gate to those of lesser races, he would prefer it if it were only the women who were welcome. Or if even that were too far, at least the revival of the Prima Nocta. When pressed by what right he had for that, he claimed his roots date back to the unknown bastard son of a King, thereby making him Noble by blood. Unfortunately, I have no such way of confirming or denying that statement. Thinking upon it though, given the carnal freedoms that Madosin practices, I do not feel that such a thing as Prima Nocta would be necessary. Nor welcomed.
- Furthermore, he held the belief that a multi-colored population would be able to hold together, but it would not last. He believed that, as time went on, the differences that each peoples hold would cause them to come at odds, with fatal ends. And that by having a majority of numbers, the White community would be spared such a fate. Or alternatively, could weather such an event.
One other thing I had noticed as he spoke. It seemed to me, that he had designs on Ms. Rebecca Mevan. He had paid call on her often, but her manservant Samuel had proven to be an insurmountable obstacle. I believe that he intends to wed her, for reasons of bettering his station and position. And, perhaps just as likely, her fortune.
The entire exchange had taken place while we ate our dinner, and as he was talking, I was nodding along, however I made it clear to Mr. Holden that they were nods of acknowledgement of his word being heard and understood, and not of approval. "That is an... interesting case you have made, Mr. Holden, and I thank you for coming here to speak to me about it."
He smiled broadly and brought his Glass up to toast. "The pleasure is all mine, Mr. McKay. I am also glad to have your support in this matter."
"I said nothing of support, Mr. Holden," I replied quickly, "I have heard your argument, and for the sake of fairness and justice, I would hear Mr. Gottlieb's argument concerning your petition. Once I have heard both sides, then I shall decide whom I shall support."
His smile vanished, and a small twitch developed in his eye. Putting his Glass down, he wiped his chin clean and threw the Napkin down onto his Plate. "Of course. Of course, of course. That is... fair, indeed. We wouldn't want you to... be misinformed, now would we?" Gloria had come in to clear his Plate from him, and I watched him eye her down lewdly, and as she turned, he gave her a swat on the rear, making her yelp. "Thank you my dear. There's more for you later," he grinned and winked, rubbing his fingers together. She said nothing, but gave him a tight smile.
The Clock struck and announced the time. Leaning back in his Chair, he rested his arm upon it and said to me, "Is that the time already? How it flies, eh? I'm sure your staff has already prepared rooms for me, but, as a product of proper breeding, manners requires me to ask, could I impose upon your house tonight, Mr. McKay? I promise that," he looked over at Gloria once more, "I won't be too much trouble."
Could he?

Madosin.
A voyeur's tale.
The journals of Devon Mckay, the only outsider to ever enter and leave the commune of Madosin, have been found. And what stories they hold. Cover image credited to https://pixabay.com/photos/still-life-candle-book-vintage-5347677/
