Chapter 14 by Blackhand Blackhand

What does she want to talk about?

A Secret About Her Past

"Huh?" Fredrick asked, groaning slightly. It was too early for this.

"Well....there has been something I've not been entirely up front about. Something I didn't feel comfortable discussing with you, with anyone, until I knew it would not effect the way I was seen."

He squinted harder. Now he was getting worried.

"Of course, of course. You're my wife. One would think I'd have heard the worse by now."

He gave a nervous chuckle.

"Well, you see..." She said slowly, as though trying to find the words in the sentence as she spoke. "...The man you know as my father is my real father...but the woman you know as my mother isn't. I believe that fact should explain much of her prior behavior, actually. I was born to another woman."

"You're a bastard?" He scratches his head.

Bastards were not too uncommon in this and age. Of course, it normally meant she'd get a lower share of the inheritance. But, his family was slightly more wealthy then hers, and he was going to get a larger share of his inheritance as well. When it came to important matters, not much had changed.

"Well yes. But, not an ordinary bastard. You see, my mother was part of the household staff..." She rose from the bed slightly. The blanket fell around her, revealing her naked form. "She was one of father's dolls."

"My word..." Fredrick let out accidentally. Victoria crossed her arms over her chest, and looked towards him through her hair. She was looking for his reaction.

But, wait. Something didn't add up.

"That can't be right. When a doll has a child they are immediately linked up to the system, and grow up as a special protected category doll." He said, almost to himself. "Even if your father had been the one to father the child, you still would have been a doll."

"You see, my dear Freddie. That's the thing." She lowered her gaze. "I was born a doll."

"Until I was 14, I was under the CPU's management. It was only when I was a teenager that my father decided to release me, and induct me as a full member of the family. I've only ever had a full name for a little more then a decade."
