A Mother's Confession

The door to her cell opened and Edward came in.

"Please, let me go" Elise begged.

"I can't do that" said Edward, "there is something you need to know about mother"

Edward had his guard unchain Elise from the wall. However Elise's wrists were cuffed together and a collar was placed around her neck. Naked, she was walked to another cell by her brother. Inside was their mother.

She was dressed in rags and dirty.

"Now, 'mother', why don't you tell Elise what you told me?"

Edward pulled Elise into the cell.

"Elise" her mother said, "I'm not actually your mother. Your father had her executed when she tried to save Edward. I married him afterwards"

"What else?" said Edward.

"I sold your mother out so I could become queen"

Elise gasped in shock. She was then led out of the dungeon by her brother and outside the castle where a crowd had gathered.

"Welcome, subjects" said Edward, "I have overthrown my father, the Mad King"

Elise couldn't believe what she was hearing. The people were cheering that her father had been slain.

Elise found herself attending the coronation of Edward, naked and in chains. The crown was placed on Edward's head.

"But what of the queen and the princess?"

"They will both remain my prisoners" said Edward, "Elise will be paraded so that all will see her disgraced"
