What's next?
A Military Supply Ship
Forks were evil and there was absolutely no way she was going to use three of them for a single dish. Especially not when said dish was clearly soup. The busybodies at the other tables could shove it with their disapproving looks as she picked up the large spoon that was for some other arcane purpose that had yet to be defined. Finally getting to enjoy the current course's succulent warm nutrition. Once one got past the strange means of consumption Avalonian food wasn't half bad. Especially not when it came to dessert.
As she was thinking of the cake to come she didn't notice the woman approaching her table until her new guest made a slight sound in her throat. Katla finally looking up to acknowledge her presence. "Can I help you?" Katla asked, looking at her visitor with a raised eyebrow. The woman was clearly nobility, they wouldn't have let her in otherwise, but she didn't radiate the usual haughtiness that Katla had quickly been coming to associate with those of good breeding. Her long brown hair in a slightly disarrayed bun with two tassels hanging out to either side as her almost amber-brown eyes appeared despondent.
"I am La- Captain Kane. I have been instructed to assist you with your upcoming operation. Admiral Sheba sends her regards." In her spare time, Katla had finally found out that Sheba was the overall commander of Third Fleet. The good admiral must have heard about the trouble she'd been having in regards to getting lift capacity. Everyone had claimed that they had prior orders, calling them on their obvious bullshit however would have required access to records that she didn't have even as a commodore.
"I'll have to send her a thank you then. Please. Have a seat." Katla waved, indicating the chair across from her which the woman took with a nod. A waiter swooping in out of nowhere with a matching dish and set of silverware. As soon as they were gone Katla pressed the switch for a small privacy field to deploy around them. It had been a bit surprising when the waiter had told her about it but on further thought it made sense. A restaurant for the nobility had to have some means to hide their scheming if they wanted to stay in business. With the threat of eavesdropping eliminated it was time to get to business. "Have you been briefed?"
"I know the broad details. Its some sort of strike against the Authority, retaliation for their seizure of C211 and meant to act as a deterrent against future action." Kane confirmed with a nod, utilizing the proper array of forketry as she spoke to spear a piece of meat from her bowl. "You need myself and my vessel for the acquisition of the site's assets. Beyond that, I know nothing."
"Our target is C211 itself. Our plan is to launch a raid from one of three points to get in, get the goods and get out before we have to engage their full ****. Do you have any experience with raiding?" Katla asked, seriously doubting it, to her surprise the Captain nodded.
"My heir was born of a raid. While I was not among the prizes the charms of their captain were far too much for me in my younger years. One of your countrywomen. I mean former countrywomen." She corrected herself. Evidently not trying to cause offense, Katla honestly didn't mind, no matter how things went here she knew she always had a home on Asgard to return to if she needed it. The citizenship bureau was very accommodating to those of Viking descent. Even those not born on Asgard itself. "As to whether I've participated in one of my own the opportunity has eluded me until now."
"We'll go over this in more detail later but you'll be handling the actual grab. The station is likely being used as a rest and entertainment center at the moment, if we play this right we'll be able to hit it before they can do any serious fortifying." Katla explained, not that it would help much. The station was any defender's nightmare, there wasn't a single tight corridor that could be set up as a kill zone, the whole thing was made solely for the purpose of shifting material and a lot of it. That meant wide-open lanes for haulers and carts as well as vast hanger spaces with plenty of maneuver room. Without stripping whatever ships were positioned there to skeleton crews there was no chance of serious resistance. Not that Katla would mind if they did. A few extra ships for the Avalonian Navy would be very welcome even if it meant leaving without the minerals.
"I see." Kane very clearly did not see but that was fine. There would be time to fix that later. "So we will be avoiding the enemy then?"
"I doubt we can do that entirely but if we have to fight we don't want it to be fair. We're outnumbered even with the most optimistic projections. Not by much but enough to count if they have a destroyer or more than a couple of carriers." Katla explained. "We've got a full strategy meeting tonight, we'll be nailing down the details then. I'll send you the room number." After that conversation shifted away from tactical matters and instead moved to Kane trying to teach Katla the arts of Avalonian eating. Once that completely failed it shifted instead to idle small talk.
