Chapter 4 by CHYOAkyle CHYOAkyle

What card did you pull and what are your focuses?

A Loptyr Worm, Trickery and Poison (CHYOAkyle)

"What the hell is a Loptyr worm!" you exclaim out loud earning a weird look from Eris. "Huh? I've never heard of them? Are they some some kind of new monster one of the other gods came up with? Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter." she says nonchalantly. "Of course it matters, how am I supposed to plan my focuses around a monster I don't know?" you ask earning a bright smile.

"That's half the fun!" she exclaims happily. She sees the look on your face and frowns. "It's too late to back out you know. You already agreed so it's set in stone." she says drawing your attention. Why did she word it like that?

"What do you mean?" You ask her, eyes demanding an answer. "Well, you know, you're the only one who accepted. Even a god as powerful as me can't **** a soul to do something it doesn't want to. You had to agree for this to work. All the others said they didn't want to." she says timidly, almost whispering the last part.

"So you tricked me." you say angrily. She looks at you worried. "Wait, wait! Just because they haven't agreed yet doesn't mean they won't. You're actually not part of the first group I brought here. I was lazy so I put them all in the same room and talked to them all at the same time. Then they got mad and insulted me so I got mad and I kinda treated them really badly. Eventually they all banded together and refused to work with me. But if you go I'm sure the others will see how fun it is and join you!" she said naively.

"It's only fun for you!!!" you roar causing her to visibly shrink. "I liked my life! I wanted to spend more time with my family and friends! Who are you to decide my life was boring!" you continue letting the anger that was boiling up inside finally release.

...

"Sorry."

It was so quiet you barely heard it. But you're sure it wasn't just in your head. She had said it. "If you're sorry, then when you've had your fun I want payment." you say still smoldering. She looks at you with tears beginning to form in her eyes. "Like what?"

"When I'm done I want you to return me and all the others you killed to our original lives and fix the damage you did." you demand. She goes a bit pale at this. You assume it would not be an easy task even for a god, based on the look she has on her face. "I-uh... Okay." she agrees reluctantly.

"So what is my win condition?" you ask with a sigh, earning a confused look. "What do I have to do to earn a win and end the game?" you clarify and she nods. "Part of the reason I took all you guys because you all looked bored. As a goddess I can sense emotions so I thought you humans would all be happy to play my game. And I don't really want to destroy this world I just wanted it to be more interesting..." she says trailing off.

"How about me getting the other players to join. We'll say half is a passing grade but my goal is to get all of them to play. Sound fair?" you ask earning a happy nod as she sniffles and wipes away the tears from her eyes. "Deal." she says holding out her hand. As you grasp your hand around hers and shake to seal your verbal contract, you feel a jolt of electricity rush up your spine.

Your eyes are suddenly drawn to your hand as the skin, muscle and bone begin to unweave, turning into wisps of flame and are drawn into the gem in the card held in Eris's left hand. "Wait, I didn't choose my focuses yet." you say as your right arm has already disappeared into the card. "Oops..." you hear as she looks like she just remembered too.

Your mind scrambles as you think of your answers. What are two things that would be good no matter what? "Defense and Poison!" you yell as it reaches your neck. "I can't give you defense but I can give you-" she starts but is cut off as your head unravels and all your senses are lost.

Eris sighs deeply looking at the card that houses your soul. She flicks her wrist and in her hand sprouts an ornately detailed golden pen. She pricks her finger with the pen, drawing out her out her golden ichor and inscribes two words in the air. Trickery and Poison. The golden words swirl as they too are drawn into the green gem resting within the center of the card.

The pen disappears in a similar flourish and her wound has already knitted itself closed. She places the gem of the card against her forehead as if peering into it with her thoughts and smiles. "Fine, as an extra gift I'll send you there." she says bringing the gem to her lips and kissing it. She wispers a soft "Thank you." before tossing the card forward.

The card impacts a black stretchy substance, not unlike dried tar and bursts through it revealing the cosmos.

The golden card streaks off like a shooting star leaving a trail of sparks behind it. As it travels a few of the stars are suddenly pulled from their spot in the sky and into the card, branding it with a myriad of different symbols along the edge. The most prominent of the symbols are the three larger stamps set at the top edge of the card. One, a set of jaws like that of a shark, the second of an eight pointed star and the third is that of two helixes crossed over eachother. Once their stamps have been ingrained on the card the stars flicker back to life in their original positions.

The card breaches the atmosphere, a corona of fire spreading around it as it streaks across the sky. It begins spinning, tumbling over itself as it approaches the earth. It tears through a forest and lights a few trees ablaze while passing right through others as if it was ethereal. The card finally comes to rest in a clearing, the bottom right corner lodged firmly in the earth at the top of a small hill, while the other three sit exposed to the sun's rays.
