Chapter 3 by Zanzibar Zanzibar

What do I choose?

A Briefcase of Cash

I write at the top of the next page:

Zanzibar looked under the bench and saw a black briefcase. Opening it he was astonished to see that it was full of cash in neat bundles.

I look under the bench. Nothing there. I look at the book again, my note is still written there. I’m disappointed, I close the book and think. Maybe there are some kind of rules? Maybe I can’t just ask for a suitcase full of cash. I’ll try writing something else. This time when I open the book to the second page I see it’s full of text. At the top:

Zanzibar looked under the bench and saw a black briefcase. Opening it he was astonished to see that it was full of cash in neat bundles. He glanced around in case anybody had seen his find, but there was nobody nearby.

Okay, that’s nice, adding a bit of extra detail. I quickly look under the bench. My heart leaps. A fucking briefcase. I can hardly contain my excitement as I open it and see the neat bundles of notes stacked side by side. I’m nervous all of a sudden, and I look around in case anybody might have seen. Of course there is nobody nearby.

I close the book again, thinking. Even though I knew there would be nobody around I still couldn’t help looking. Did the book make me do that, or did it just predict what I would do naturally?

What else might I be able to do with it?

I head home to try out some ideas
