You walk inside and try to identify the person who runs this place. The front room is quite busy, and initially you think everyone present to be of the same species, as people look very similar compared to the infernal mix in the streets at large. After a few seconds observation you see that the majority just tend to be either elves or humans in here.

Soon you spot the only man with pointed ears (that you can see) whose hair isn’t silvery white. The red-haired elf stands behind the bar, watching all that goes on, occasionally lending a hand in passing to one of the serving girls or boys as they hurry about the place with drinks. You reckon he’s the owner, and so move straight towards him.

For a split second you see his eyebrows twitch upwards in fear or surprise as he sees you striding at him, so you slow down. All trace of wavering composure is gone by the time you arrive before him to introduce yourself.

“I believe there’s a custom regarding apprentices...” you start after exchanging pleasantries, and pull the dwarf’s copper from your pocket, “but I’m not from these parts, would you mind awfully explaining it all to me?”

You show the elf the little circle of metal and he smiles. Apparently the custom is to allow apprentices their first night for nothing provided they either have proof of a master or find one the following day.

“Would you like to eat before you move in, Mr Halfheart?” the elf offers once certain you understand your obligations.
