The world

Terra Dipliosis is a contemporary world with three major landmasses, average climatic regions and a contemporary level of technology.

Inhabitants

Terra Dipliosis is home to three known sapient species with a twin double helix. The helices are an animalistic helix with instructions for the animal characteristics of the body and a humanoid helix with instructions for the humanoid characteristics of the body.

• Those with a dormant animalistic helix and active humanoid helix are known as Kith.
• Those with both helices active are known as Kindred.
• Those with a dormant humanoid helix and active animalistic helix are known as Warrigal.

Or to put it differently: on the one end of the spectrum you have the Kith with humanoid genes expressed and only trace amounts of animalistic genes and at the other end of the spectrum the Warrigal with animalistic genes expressed and only trace amounts of humanoid genes. Between those two extremes you have the Kindred with a mix of humanoid and animalistic genes expressed that varies between individuals and bloodlines.

• In Warrigal the expression of humanoid genes is statistically negligible but they have just enough to give them an anthropomorphic appearance.
• The Kith have a statistically negligible amount of animalistic genes expressable but too little to affect their humanoid appearance.

• The expression of the animalistic genes by the Kindred however form a spectrum on their own. Those who have a smaller portion expressed show only external animal characteristics while those with a larger portion may also have certain animalistic organs expressed. Thus the former will have ears and tails of cat, dog, rabbit, fox or wolf (to name the most common ones). Of the latter is the most common ability to naturally lay edible eggs or produce dairy milk. But some may even naturally produce things such as spider silk, although those are rather rare.

  In each of the above cases apply that all their offspring are either Kith, Kindred or Warrigal, even from a mixed union.

• From the Kindred and Warrigal it is known that those based on predator species tend to be more assertive than those that are based on prey species. It is also known that in the case of a mixed union between a predator-based one and a prey-based one the offspring tend to follow the predator parent.

Society

For years the world has been segregated into Kith territories, Kindred territories and Warrigal territories.

About thirty years ago a first paper was published proving that Warrigal, Kindred and Kith had a common ancestor. The authors of the paper, Prof Eduardo Hill (male Kith), Prof Jan Mclaughlin (female Fox Kindred) and Prof Amanda (Mandy) Hall (female Fox Warrigal), dubbed it Firstborn in analogy with a scroll with an ancient text, actually more a poem., about the First One. This scroll tells about how the Warrigal, Kindred and Kith came to be and was discovered by Prof Kathleen (Kathy) Mclaughlin, Anthropology (female Fox Kindred).
The single fact that the paper was published was no small feat because it was the first of more or less structured cooperation between the Kith, Kindred, and Warrigal spearheaded by academics of all three.

In their research they discovered that certain genetic material is naturally passed on unadulterated. Thus making this DNA a group trait because the only way you can have a difference in that DNA is by having a different ancestor, but this also means that anyone having that same DNA must have the same ancestor.

So launching a widespread research program they succeeded in retrieving genetic material from every kind of Kindred, Warrigal and Kith against all odds. Analysis of all the genetic material saw three prime DNA sequences emerging, corresponding with the three known groups in society. Thus three groups with each the same mutation on one mother DNA. This leads the researcher to the following conclusion, there must have been one progenitor that in time had three mutations. Therefore they gave their paper the title “The Daughters of Firstborn Eve”.

However not everybody was thrilled by this conclusion claiming that the First One mentioned in the ancient text “First One” were not our common ancestor but were reborn as the Creator of the Kindred, Warrigal and Kith and also that according to the same text they were meant to stay separated.

All this being said, this was in retrospect probably the first step that eventually resulted in the present-day pilot project of Esperanza Isle.
