Chapter 2 by MeedrowH MeedrowH

Who's story do you want to follow?

[Non canon] Aaron Walter, 20M [RPG, Straight, Bi, Slow burn]

[A/N: It'll be updated every now and again. Can't promise nothing, but I'll try to do at least 1 monthly.]

[A/N: Also damn, that's a load of guidelines to follow. I'm not good with following many directives at once. I'll just follow the basic premise, hope nobody's mad :)]

Aaron was a typical person, just like 7 billion others on planet Earth. Actually, one could say he was quite average, even taking into account everyone. 180 cm tall, just barely toned muscles (he didn't like long workout, and only happened to jog 2 times a week), brown eyes and small lips. His skin was quite bright, but it was also rather matte, and paired with very short, brown hair it made him look not really eye-catching. Well, he was very happy about that. The less people bothered him, the better.

The day the news about the asteroid came around, he was simply watching another episode of his favorite anime, eating chips. And even after he found out that in a year everyone on Earth would be dead, he simply shrugged. In all honesty, he didn't give a damn. He had a simple belief: everyone had to die one day. There was little point in freaking out.

But then, the aliens came around. They proposed a solution, and allowed them all to decide. Aaron was completely indifferent to what the final decision would be, but still followed the news. The reason was simple: the aliens. Nobody knew how they looked or spoke. They communicated with humans using Morse code, but their messages weren't always grammatically correct, and it was obvious that they had some kind of a machine to do this. Surprisingly as well, the first messages came in Chinese and English, in that order. But well, after the world's greatest heads cooperated, they managed to start a dialogue. Oh well, good so far.

Aliens had a simple purpose: to safe humans. They deemed them a species worth saving, and although they lacked resources necessary to destroy the asteroid size of Moon, they did have quite intrinsic technology. Mind transfer.

For 3 months, world was in a state of semi-turmoil as the spacecraft of Atterians (as they called themselves) landed in Arctic. They never showed themselves, but with consent of world leaders, thousands of strange machines were sent over the world. Those were the machines that people could use to upload their minds into the huge server that would be built on Moon. In fact, the entire Moon was transformed into a super-computer over the course of 10 months. These aliens sure did have some handy technology. Well, that didn't change the fact that they didn't have weapons to obliterate the asteroid.

Oh well, it wasn't like Aaron cared much. He remained mostly indifferent to what was happening, mostly because he knew he was too insignificant to be noticed by anyone. In all his life, he never even had a girlfriend, and his parents rarely ever gave him a call. Even when the world was told to be over, they only did contact him after 3 whole days. Well, he couldn't say he was the most liked of their family. Then again, when compared to his older sister, he was a nobody. She was a scientist working for NASA while he just barely made it in day-to-day life.

Well, back to main story. After people started uploading themselves, a new thing came up. Atterians agreed to simulate a world for the people to live in, but they asked humans to vote on what exactly this would would be like. One could take a survey and choose from a ton of answers, including the time setting (like medieval, futuristic etc.), style of rendering (if someone preferred drawn characters rather than real ones), and many others. There were options to be in a movie scenario, for people to gain powers, to simulate an anime universe. After only 96 hours, there were 3 main factions: The Gamers, The MCUs, and the Animes.

The Gamers wanted for the world that would be created to be in a video-game style, where people could level up, kill monsters etc. They cared little for the style of rendering, so long they could play. Basically, it would be a paradise for them, who'd have lived most of their lives glued to the screens. However, they were met with a huge opposition from the general public.

MCUs wanted for the world of MCU (also DCEU and few others as well) to come to live in the simulation. They wanted people getting superpowers, bending laws of physics and generally all the stuff that only happens in the movies and comics. They, too, were criticized for their choice, but mostly because the amount of superpowers was limited, so such a world would be only good for people who were lucky.

And lastly, the Animes faction wanted for the simulation to be kept in an anime-style. They didn't care about anything (well, most of them didn't anyway), so long the world would be rendered like an anime.

The entire debate and voting took 1 week. Aaron himself was more of a gamer than anime lover, but he did see the good of both sides. He didn't mind a change in rendering of the world. Hell, if anything, he had a chance to actually look good in anime style. Since answers could be mixed, he decided to vote for gaming world with anime-style rendering.

The 3 factions were constantly fighting over the course of a week, but then, Atterians offered a solution to the problem. They introduced a world that they called 'type-Nexus'. It featured a modern-style world that had teleports in it that could be used by anyone to travel to other types of simulations. Sub-simulations were limited in size and time of working, but they offered the best of all worlds. In the sub-worlds, people would be able to live like in RPG, while they would be a normal person in the main world. There was only one problem: the entire simulation would be required to step down from some things.

Firstly, the rendering style must be kept at least somewhat simple. In the end of the day, people agreed to go for anime-style just for the sake of Animers.

Secondly, giving powers and RPG elements in the main simulation would break the balance, since the strong could overwhelm the weak. So, it was decided that RPG elements would only activate once in sub-simulation, and deactivate in the main one. This was fine with Gamers (since that would become their new games).

While MCUs were discontent at first with such a proposition, they soon also bent to others' will. In the end of the day, Gamers + Animers outnumbered MCUs nearly 7:1. And besides, they'd get their superpowers, so what were they so uptight about?

During the time of deciding that matter, there were also ethical issues. What about criminals, especially people charged with sexual or ? Well, the solution was simple as day: underage protection and no unless a person willed it.

So, in the end, the settings were made as follows:

  • The world would be divided into main simulation, which would be a recreation of Earth in 1:1 scale and operate non-stop, and sub-simulations, which would operate in 1 month intervals and then disable for 3 days to cool off the systems responsible for them.
  • The rendering style was set to anime-like.
  • Main simulation kept at modern age, sub-sims would vary (anywhere from cavemen to futuristic space exploration)
  • People would be able to gain EXP and Levels, as well as abilities. However, this would only apply in sub-simulations (not all of them, and every simulation would have separate statistics for players), and in the main simulation it would be possible to check a person's ranking in all the sub-sims.
  • Money could be gathered in sub-sims and used in main simulation in form of crypto-currency. However, there was a limit and special conversion set in place to not allow a handful of people to suddenly become millionaires.
  • Sex was absolutely impossible for people below 18.
  • Crimes would be punished the moment they were committed. Penalty would be proportional to assumed crime (like a small zap for stealing a chocolate bar, and convulsing, painful spark for attempted ). However, this would only apply in main simulation, and only if the person committing the crime had a clear intent of going through with their wrongdoing (so it would still be possible to steal car keys as a prank).
  • It was impossible to die. The people could still age, but until a person decided they had had enough of life, they couldn't die. They could wish to be permanently removed from the simulation of their own volition. In sub-simulations with RPG elements was still possible, albeit there was a respawning system.

And that was the main gist of the world they would be put into. After the whole 50 A4 page document was dropped onto a site where Atterians communicated with the masses, Aaron only really managed to read the main points. Seriously, in just a week, they produced over 50 pages of things that'd be implemented. No, he didn't have the mental capacity to process something like that. There were sure to be many people who would, though, so he'd catch up with them some day.

The uploading process was simple enough. The machines looked like a large bus stops, and once a person stood under it, they were scanned and their body model was uploaded. They could also choose to have their minds uploaded immediately as well, and some people used this, their bodies now empty shells that were automatically taken care of by the machines.

Aaron didn't really care about uploading himself immediately. He waited, and waited, and waited, until soon, the asteroid was fast approaching the Earth. Less than 100 000 people were left in the world, and all of them decided to upload themselves then, including himself. In the last day of Earth's history, final 100 000 people were uploaded into the simulation (which by that time got dubbed The Hentai Simulation). And then, the Earth perished.

Aaron looked in the darkness as he saw a loading bar appear.

[Scanning... 100%]
[Modeling... 100%]
[Mind upload... 100%]
[Reading input information... 100%]
[Parameters set... Correct.]
[Checking influential data... No problems detected.]

[Welcome, Aaron Walter, to the Simulation. Would you like an introduction?]

"No." He replied quickly.

[Understood. You will be transported to your apartment in T-10... 9... 8...]

He clenched his fists a little. And then, a slight smile crept on his face. He wanted to see this world. He might've uploaded as one of the last people, but he was filled with anticipation. He really wanted to go and try out some sub-simulations.

[Activating teleport function... target: Home.]

And then, he appeared in his apartment.

Okay, first. What does he do?
