What's next?
'I walked right out of the machinery.'
God it's dusk, didn't think I'd sleep that long, wonder where she is?
He realised there was a new pile of boxes all prettily wrapped sitting on the low table, surveying them he picked up a note she had obviously left for him, taking it he read it to himself, 'Hi, you were asleep so I left you, I'm going out for tea with a friend, don't worry about me, I'm a big girl, if I need your help I'll call, don't wait up.'
What the fuck! She'd already said the last part to him before she left the first time, obviously she feels the need to rub it in, okay I get it. So be it, that's the way it is, what the hell did I do that was this wrong?! Do I really deserve this?! For gods sake!
He realised he didn't feel angry, give it time – it'll come. Dejection, that's what he felt dejected and simply thrown away, he regretted leaving her out of the loop but he obviously was still gonna pay for it despite her knowing he felt terrible about it. He had warned her he would make decisions she wouldn't like, so was her knowing what decisions he made, was she thinking she could turn them around, nullify them?
Ahhh, fuck it all, okay big girl point taken, I was wrong, I fucked up, I'm sorry, but right now it don't matter, does it. Well from now on it's all her decisions.
He picked up the phone book and made a call, a second call was made in quick succession.
He packed quickly and lightly, left very little of himself anyway, even his dirty washing was going with him. He left a note. He called Andrew. He told him what he hoped would be suffice to ensure his wife had the support she would need, Andrew insisted he came to him now, he was on his way.
I didn't know whether I needed the drama of talking to Andrew other than it was good that we were able to say goodbye to one another face to face. I had a strong sense of friendship with Andrew and disappearing into the night and not saying goodbye grated a lot, so I was pleased he was coming, I placed the note I'd written on the top of the note my wife had left me, switched the light out and closed and locked the door.
I had an item I wanted from the hotel shop, Andrew had just walked in to the foyer as I worked details out with the staff. My wife wouldn't have to worry about anything for the remainder of her stay.
“Boss, do you have everything you need?”
“Yes Andrew I do, the only other things are what we talked about, are you happy to do that for me.”
“With out question Boss, Mrs will be my first priority, that you can be assured of.”
“Andrew thank you sincerely, I appreciate what you are doing for me, thank you.”
“You are welcome, but that is my job. I would also like to thank you and Mrs for welcoming me into your family for your stay here with us, I do not get a lot of chances to mix with clients as I have with you and Mrs, Boss so thank you for that.”
“No it was our pleasure Andrew.”
“Right Boss, airport then, we should maybe not delay.”
And that was it, for me anyway this was the end of my holiday in Aruba, even given the events of the last few days, I'd loved it, somewhere we would be back, and that I realised was as far I wanted to go with that thought in mind. Andrew spoke, “Boss do you know where Mrs was going to tonight?”
“No Andrew, she just said out with a friend, no other indication. Don't worry about her tonight, She's a big girl.”
If he'd looked at the drivers mirror in the car he would of seen the look of concern on his friends face, and in those dark eyes. Andrew knew what he had to do, but firstly get the Boss to his flight.
Final goodbyes weren't ****, it was mutual and understanding, it wasn't till I walked away with a wave to Andrew that I hoped he liked Chocolates enough to open the box without just giving them to the first random stranger that happened along, inside was a thousand dollars in cash.
