Chapter 9 by fantaghiro fantaghiro

What's next?

"as a cabana boy/pool attendant at the country club."

"A cabana boy? Or pool attendant? What the hell are you talking about, Randall?" you asked in shock. "What kind of jobs are those?"

She gave a deep-throated laugh at your flummoxed reaction. "Relax, dude, it's the same job. And it'll be pretty sweet." She gave you a moment to catch a breath.

"What exactly would I do?" you finally asked.

"It's not that hard," she explained. "Basically it's a customer service job. You'd greet club members and do things for them around the pool and spa. Get towels and stuff. Serve drinks and snacks. Maybe apply suntan lotion. You know, that kind of thing. And you would have to clean some - bathrooms & furntiture, empty trash, whatever."

"That doesn't sound too exciting," you complained. "And probably doesn't pay much."

"Ten dollars an hour," Randall interjected. "Alot better than you'd make at McDonald's. But the real money is in the tips. Dude, I've seen people at the club tip like crazy - you could do really well."

That perked your interest. "I could use the money," you admitted. "But how does that help with us getting together?" you asked.

"That's the best part!" she exclaimed. "Because of my - Tammy's - fame, I'm big news at the country club. They made me a 'diamond' level member."

"So?" you prodded.

She sounded exasperated. "Tim, man, that means I'm one of the elite. So I get my own attendant - well, I share one with a few of the other clients. Anyway, I'll request you and that way you will mostly just work for me and 4 or 5 other members. When I'm there, you can hang with me..."

You had to say that Randall's idea did sound very tempting. "Okay...so when would I start?" you asked.

"It's a done deal, Timbo - just say the word. I've got it all setup," she said excitedly. "Here's what you do..."

...

Randall's plan was solid. You did have to fill out an application and go to an interview, but it seemed mostly a formality. You got the job without any problem and started that weekend. As Randall predicted, your dad was thrilled that you found a job - and both your parents were pleased that you were apparently doing something to take your mind off of the loss of your best friend.

Is hanging with Randall in his new life very awkward? Or is it great but rumors spread about "Ms. Barnes" and you, the new cabana boy
