Chapter 2
by Lexavier
"Who's that under those layers eh?" he jokes. "Are you the paper boy?"
"It's me Grandpa, Alex"
"I know I know, I'm only pulling your leg. Get in here." He says warmly, stepping aside and letting you into his home. Any normal person would expect from someone his age that his house would be old fashioned, with faded wallpaper and wood carved furniture. This couldn't be further from the truth. His house is more modern than yours, with automatic lighting with motion sensors, open spaces divided with glass and polished metal, and large equipment like the new plasma flat screen TV that dominates the lounge.
He helps you remove your coat and scarf, finally revealing that you are not in fact the paper boy, but his Grandson. You happily wish him a Merry Christmas and hand him his Christmas present which he gratefully accepts. After a short while you find yourself sitting in his lounge on his expensive black leather sofas, with a cup of tea gently steaming on the short glass table in front of you.
You make casual conversation, updating each other on the past week. Your Grandfather is retired now but he used to be very big in the technology industry although you're not really sure on what exactly he worked on. When you were younger, every time he asked, he would tell you the same words. "Oh, I'll show you someday my boy, but not today". Now, after years of asking, you've just accepted it as another mystery and had almost forgotten about it.
But apparently, today was the day.
Completely out of the blue, a soft knowing smile creeps onto his lips. "You were, how old this year... 21 right? I think you're old enough now to... understand what I did with my life."
You're shocked, you can't believe the words coming out of his mouth. This is the biggest family held secret you know of. Your parents would never talk about it, and no Uncle, Aunt or Cousin seemed to know what he retired from or how he amassed his fortune.
"So... do you want to hear what this old man has to tell you, eh boy?"
An Unexpected Gift
Androids are not just for Christmas...
Your genius Grandpa gives you a new toy to play with. Hi everyone. This is a little project I'm working on at the moment, it's obviously turning into a bigger and bigger endeavour as I continue to expand outwards with options so may take some time to finish. I appreciate comments where I could expand or perhaps I've missed an opportunity to put in detail that should be different from the other paths which is, at the moment, my chief concern. Thanks!
