"Ghouls!"

You blink in surprise of what he said in response. Ghouls? You had to think back in your fabricated memory to remember any details you may have learned about ghouls. You did, but it was some really rudimentary and basic knowledge.

Ghouls are twisted, monstrous race of demi-humans. Cannibalism has a deep consequence of warping the mind and body of individuals to a point of devolution. After generations of crazed feeding of corpses, these demi-humans have formed to be repulsive perfectness of grave robbers for the consumption of rotted flesh. Hunched over, protrusion of bones, using bones for armor and weaponry, night-vision, unnatural agility, sharp needle-like teeth, and a desire to kill that is very useful.

Despite still being a part of the living, they are rejected by their brethren for their perverted appetites. This made them useful for necromancers and vampires and liches that can enlist the aid of clans of these demi-humans, all they would need to ensure their loyalty was a promise of corpses to feed from. With that promise alone, ghouls tend to be very loyal to their masters...but due to still being of the living, they can revolt if they feel abused or that the promises have been broken. As well as going to war with other clans if they feel favoritism is at play.

Not the most perfect of units to have due to their need for corpses to feed from and perchance of being quick to anger, but you suppose they were still better than skeletons and slaves. But were they the best first step?
