Several months later....

The human race was said to be dying, and every fertile person who was an adult must contribute to the breeding programs. A person leaving for the centers was a major affair. Some celebrated it, calling those selected as heroes to mankind. Some hated it, as it was a major inconvenience to their lives. Regardless, there was mysteriously no resistance to the attempt to make better humans that were smarter and stronger than the original ones. Not even radical religious organizations interfered.

After a year, the original humans were introduced to Human 2.0, a punch line that was dubbed by mainstream media, and the public loved them, in more ways than one. Society as they knew it changed as they embraced their new creations.
