The Girlfriend Effect

The Girlfriend Effect

Your life with your girlfriend

Chapter 1 by jj0445 jj0445

Jane drops onto the couch at her house after a long day of nursing classes, kicking off her shoes near the door before letting out a tired sigh. The soft glow of a lamp fills the living room while music hums quietly from a speaker somewhere in the background, mixing with the distant sound of traffic outside. Her backpack falls onto the floor beside the couch, half unzipped with notebooks and highlighters barely sticking out after another exhausting day.

Before she reaches for your hoodie, you can’t help but look at her for a second.

She’s still wearing the outfit she left for class in that morning — tight black leggings and a cropped tank top underneath a light zip-up jacket she clearly gave up wearing halfway through the day. The leggings hug every curve of her body perfectly, outlining the soft shape of her thighs and ass in a way that immediately distracts you every single time she wears them.

And the tank top honestly doesn’t help.

The thin fabric stretches comfortably across her chest, just tight enough to show the natural shape of her breasts beneath it while the neckline dips low enough to make it difficult not to stare a little too long. Between the slight exhaustion in her eyes, her messy hair from hours of classes, and the way her clothes cling naturally to her body, she somehow looks even prettier when she’s worn out like this.

Even though she looks drained, her face softens almost immediately when she sees you staring at her from the couch.

“There you are,” Jane murmurs with a tired smile.

You can’t help smiling back while your eyes drift over her one more time.

“You look really good,” you admit honestly.

She laughs softly while unzipping her jacket the rest of the way.

“Baby, I’ve been awake since six in the morning,” she says. “I definitely do not look good right now.”

“That’s objectively false.”

A faint blush creeps into her cheeks while she shakes her head.

“You’re biased.”

“Very.”

She rolls her eyes playfully, though the smile on her face grows a little wider at the compliment.

Then, without hesitation, she reaches for your hoodie draped over the couch and pulls it over herself. The oversized fabric swallows her almost immediately, the sleeves hanging past her hands while the hem falls just low enough over her thighs to make her look ridiculously cozy.

Honestly, it somehow makes her even more attractive.

She curls up beside you a second later, leaning comfortably against your side like it’s the first moment she’s been able to fully relax all day.

She smells faintly like coffee and perfume, her hair still messy from being tied up through hours of class.

“Today was brutal,” she admits quietly.

The small laugh that follows makes it obvious she’s already feeling better just being here.

Outside, the evening slowly fades into night, leaving the room feeling warm, calm, and comfortably lived-in as the two of you finally get a moment together.

“How was school, baby?” you ask softly, wrapping an arm around Jane as she snuggles closer into your side on the couch.

Her eyes flutter closed for a moment, a quiet sigh escaping as she relaxes against you.

“It was okay… just really long,” Jane murmurs. “I swear my brain is completely full right now.”

A small smile tugs at her lips as she tilts her head up to look at you.

“How was your day?”

“It was pretty chill,” you say, brushing your hand gently along her arm. “I’m just glad I finally get to see you.”

You lean down and press a soft kiss against her forehead.

Jane smiles instantly, the tension in her shoulders easing as she nuzzles closer into you.

“I missed you too,” she says quietly. “Can we just stay like this for a little while?”

“Of course.”

You pull her a little closer, holding her tighter against your chest while the music in the background hums softly through the room. For a few quiet minutes, neither of you says much. Jane just melts into you, tracing lazy patterns against your hoodie sleeve while the stress of the day slowly fades from her expression.

Then she glances up at you thoughtfully.

“You know… I feel like we haven’t really had time to hang out lately,” Jane says. “Like actual quality time.”

You nod slightly.

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

“Maybe we should plan something soon,” she continues, her eyes lighting up a little. “Like a day trip or something.”

“I’m down. What do you wanna do?”

Jane perks up almost immediately, excitement creeping into her voice.

“I saw this really cute coffee shop by the beach the other day,” she says. “We could go there, maybe have a picnic or walk around for a while. Or we could hit that vintage store downtown after.”

“That actually sounds perfect, babe.”

She grins at your response before sitting up slightly.

“Oh, and you know what else would be amazing?” Jane asks. “That concert next month. The one I told you about.”

You laugh quietly under your breath.

“Tickets are so expensive though. I know how bad you wanna go.”

Her expression softens almost instantly.

“I don’t want you spending a ton of money just because of me,” she says gently. “Seriously. We can wait for another show.”

You reach up, gently taking her chin in your hand and turning her face toward you before leaning in to kiss her softly.

“I’ll get the tickets.”

When you pull back, Jane gives you a teasing little smile, though there’s warmth behind it.

“You really don’t have to do that,” she says. “John, I’d rather you save your money.”

“It’s okay,” you reply with a small grin. “I wanna go too… and you’re worth it.”

She shakes her head with mock disbelief before nudging you playfully with her shoulder.

“Well, if you insist,” Jane says. “But only if you let me buy dinner before the show. Deal?”

You smirk slightly, joking as you pull her a little closer again.

“I’m gonna need to get lucky to make up for this.”

She laughs softly, her eyes sparkling as she pokes your side.

“Maybe you will,” she teases. “I do like making you feel good.”

The two of you laugh together, the room feeling light and warm around you. But after a moment, Jane’s expression shifts slightly. The teasing fades just enough for something more hesitant to show through.

“Hey John…” she says quietly. “Can I ask you something?”

“What’s up, babe?”

Jane takes a deep breath, her fingers fidgeting together in her lap before she finally looks over at you.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about the future,” she admits quietly. “Yours, mine… ours. Does that sound weird?”

“No,” you say softly. “But where are you going with this?”

Jane glances down at her hands for a moment before meeting your eyes again.

“Just… with school and everything getting more serious, I can’t help but wonder what comes next,” she says. “For us, I mean.”

You nod slowly.

“I know. I’ve been thinking about it too.” You shift closer to her on the couch. “Where do you see this going?”

She hesitates slightly, like she’s trying to organize her thoughts before speaking.

“I guess I just wanna make sure we’re on the same page,” Jane says. “That we’re heading in the same direction.”

“I think we are.” You reach over and take her hand gently. “Where do you see it going?”

She takes another small breath, her smile faltering just a little.

“I hope we’re both working toward the same thing,” she says honestly. “I guess I’m just worried about how things might change.”

“Where do you see us in five years?”

Jane laughs nervously under her breath, rubbing her arm as she thinks.

“I don’t know… I guess I see us happy,” she says. “Still together. Maybe with stable jobs, somewhere nice to live.”

“I could definitely see us living together,” you say with a small smile. “Hopefully married too.”

Her eyes widen slightly, a faint blush creeping into her cheeks.

“Married?” Jane repeats with a surprised laugh. “Wow. That’s… kind of a big step. I didn’t realize you were thinking that far ahead.”

“We’ve talked about it before,” you remind her gently. “We both want it eventually, right? Why not?”

She quickly lifts her hands with a soft laugh.

“I’m not saying no,” she says. “I’m just surprised, I guess. Let’s not rush anything, okay? There’s plenty of time.”

“Definitely,” you reassure her. “I don’t wanna rush it either.”

Jane lets out a relieved breath, her shoulders visibly relaxing again.

“Good,” she says quietly. “I’m glad we talked about it. I never want us to have misunderstandings about stuff like this.”

You squeeze her hand lightly.

“Ideally… when would you wanna be married?”

She thinks for a moment, twirling a strand of hair around her finger absentmindedly.

“I don’t know,” Jane says softly. “Maybe after we’ve both graduated and gotten some real-world experience. Like… five years maybe?”

“I like that,” you reply. “Definitely gives us time to get on our feet.”

She smiles softly at that, leaning her head against your shoulder again.

“Exactly,” she murmurs. “I wanna build something stable with you. Not just rush into everything because it sounds romantic.”

You rest your head lightly against hers.

“I get that.”

For a moment, neither of you says anything. The music playing quietly in the background fills the silence while her fingers trace absentminded patterns against your hand.

Then Jane glances up at you again, her expression calmer now.

“You know what’s funny?” she says.

“What?”

“A year ago, talking about this stuff would’ve terrified me.”

You laugh quietly.

“And now?”

Her lips curve into a softer smile.

“Now it feels… safe.” She pauses for a second before adding more quietly, “Like I can actually picture it.”

Your arm tightens around her waist slightly.

“I can too.”

Jane looks down for a second, trying and failing to hide the smile spreading across her face.

“You’re really good at this whole reassuring boyfriend thing,” she teases lightly.

“Yeah? I’ve been practicing.”

She laughs softly before leaning up to kiss you, slower this time, lingering for an extra second before settling back against your chest.

“I’m serious though,” she says quietly. “Thank you for actually talking about this with me instead of freaking out.”

“Baby, if it’s about us, I’m always gonna wanna talk about it.”

That makes her smile immediately.

“Good,” Jane whispers. “Because I really want this to last.”

Jane pulls back slightly, her smile returning as she teases you lightly.

Relationship System

Throughout the story, your choices will affect two separate relationship systems between you and Jane.

Relationship reflects the long-term health, trust, and emotional strength of your relationship together. Supportive conversations, emotional attentiveness, affection, honesty, and meaningful moments will gradually increase this percentage over time. Bigger emotional choices may strengthen the relationship more significantly, while dismissive or careless choices can slow growth or slightly damage the relationship. As the percentage increases, the relationship between you and Jane becomes more serious, emotionally secure, and future-oriented.

Boyfriend Points represent short-term romantic and physical momentum during each story arc. Flirting, teasing, comforting Jane, physical affection, emotional reassurance, romantic gestures, and intimate moments can all earn Boyfriend Points. These points can later be spent on optional scenes involving cuddling, heavier makeout routes, and full sex scenes.

However, Boyfriend Points are temporary.

Each major arc tracks its own emotional momentum, meaning unused Boyfriend Points may reset back to zero once that arc ends. If you want to deepen intimacy with Jane, you’ll need to actively earn and spend points during the moments where the relationship naturally allows it.

Not every choice affects both systems equally.

For example:

  • Smaller affectionate choices usually grant minor Relationship growth and small BF Point gains.
  • Strong emotional support moments often grant larger BF Point rewards and stronger Relationship increases.
  • Optional intimate scenes usually cost BF Points to unlock.
  • Ignoring emotional moments may reduce future closeness or prevent intimacy from escalating naturally.

Status updates will appear after important moments throughout the story to show how your choices affect the relationship.

And even when she doesn’t say it out loud, Jane remembers the way you treat her.

Current Relationship Status: 5%

Current Boyfriend Points: 3

Jane already feels emotionally safe and deeply comfortable around you. Your willingness to seriously talk about the future reassures her that the relationship is something real and lasting.

“So, Future Husband ,” she says with a playful grin, “any big plans for tonight? Or are we keeping things low-key?”

“What would you like?”

She taps her chin dramatically, pretending to think hard about it.

“Hm… well, I am kinda craving pizza,” Jane admits. “And maybe a movie night too. Something funny though. I don’t think my brain can survive anything emotional tonight.”

You laugh softly, brushing your fingers along her side.

“Do you wanna go to the theater or stay in?”

Jane bites her lip slightly as she thinks it over, glancing between you and the softly lit living room around her. The cozy atmosphere, the music still playing quietly in the background, and the warmth of being curled up together clearly make staying in tempting. But at the same time, there’s a spark of excitement in her eyes at the idea of going out together too.

“I honestly can’t decide,” she says with a small laugh. “Both sound really good right now.”

She shifts closer again, resting her hand against your chest while looking up at you expectantly.

“So…” Jane asks softly, her smile turning playful again. “What sounds better to you?”
