Chapter 5
by alphakennyone
Does the car start?
Fortunately it does.
The engine turns over and the usual loud roar of a Cuda engine is heard. Unknown to me, the sheriff actually looks back while he walks back to his cruiser thinking that I was going to rev and burn rubber right then and there. Unknown to him though is that I actually wait for the sheriff to get into his car and drive off. When he does, I comfortably try to go on my way. I put the car from park into drive and drive away not knowing what or who I might run into.
As I cruise on the highway, I try to put together the information of the situation, the body I was in and the things I found in the car. For a slight moment I felt relief but with an inkling of mystery. But mystery kept fading away as memories from my past life erased as I lived life in this new body. Everything I did as a guy seemed to be put into a girl's perspective and thinking. I began feeling disgusted by the way that a guy would do things out of pride, most often concerning stupid stuff. I also began to think what they did, concerning women, was indeed silly as to a guy would think it would come to a point where he would have to choose between one or the other.
Continuing to think while driving, all the girls I used to like or was attracted to, I began to not be attracted to them. To add to that, all my best friends and guy friends, and also complete strangers, I began to be attracted to them. Coming to a point where I became unusually weirded out, I concentrate on my driving fully.
I drive for what seemed like three hours on a dark road, until I see something in the distance. It didn't seem much but it considerably was different than dark horizons and only my light blanketing the road in front of my car. What I see is a larger highway with possible three lanes of traffic going both ways with a median separating them. I see directly in front of me, a couple of miles away, an overpass that goes over the big highway. To either side of the overpass are two sets of on-ramps. One ramp for cars leaving the highway and one for cars entering the highway. I take the on-ramp and enter the larger highway and continue on my way.
A few miles down the highway, another overpass passes over the larger, brightly-lit highway. To the right side of this overpass, the road on it snakes it way through a brightly-lit rest stop. On a convenient sign, three food places are listed: a Denny's, Jack in the Box, and an unknown restaurant. On the sign, the rest stop also has a rather large gas station, and two motels, one a Best Western and the other a smaller, less expensive one.
Given the choices, I find it really difficult to decide where to go first.
Am I hungry, needing gas, or sleepy?
